Hey Ligonier Parents and Guardians!!!! July is almost over… GULP. It’s almost August which means it’s almost back to school… double GULP!! Hopefully, a lot of you have made it through summer camps and maybe had a week or weekend with just your spouse, or dog….. or cat…. or your flock of chickens! Maybe even had a nice family vacation or a mini stay-cation and got some quality family time. Maybe like me, you have some downtime after summer camp and before vacation (which we still have not planned but I’m determined to take)!! Whatever your summer situation I’m dropping Part 2 of my Free Kids Calendar of Events for Ligonier, cleverly entitled “August”. Very clever -yes- I know. I’d fit right in with the guys and gals in Hoot N Hollar! But hey my creativity is on hiatus at the moment. I just used up most of it on the Lego wall at the Library.

So enjoy the list, there are some really great events happening around here in August if you are around and want to get out of the house. August is when I find our schedule is at its most relaxed, and we make a point of hitting up our favored events like the Fairfield Boys Club Frog Hop. Like seriously who doesn’t want to race a frog! If you haven’t before check it out, and they even have frogs to rent for $1 if you didn’t catch your own.

We also visit the library a lot as well as our favorite parks and hiking trails and get some crafty art projects done this time of year. I might even try to sneak in some school prep because of all my good intentions of continuing the learning at home throughout the summer … well, they got thrown out the window. The second story window for all the scouters out there!

Wishing you all a fun and easy end of summer!

Sara Hillen

Written by Sara Hillen, mom of three human children: Michael 10, Ian 7 and Hailey 3, and two wannabe human children: a giant dog, Finnegan and a very fat cat called Duncan. I have been a resident of Laughlintown for the past five years and previously spent summers and falls visiting the Ligonier Valley from Pittsburgh. I can proudly say I have never missed a Fort Day  Weekend in my life, and really enjoy the beautiful wilderness of the Laurel Highlands, as well as the wonderful sense of community so many Ligonier residents strive to share with each other. I spend my time volunteering with Scouts BSA of America, in Cub Scout Pack 370 and with RK Mellon PTA as the Scholastic Bookfair Chair Woman.
