Sunday Band Concert Series on The Diamond 2019

An event every week that begins at 7:00 pm on Sunday, repeating until August 25, 2019
For the past sixty-nine years, the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce has coordinated these delightful and entertaining concerts. They are made possible by contributions from you, our concert goers, organizations, and private individual of the Ligonier Valley. We also have been so fortunate to receive a grant from the Ligonier Valley endowment to support this season of band concerts. Join us on the Diamond all summer long to enjoy these wonderful bands and visit our local businesses.
Blairsville Community Band under the direction of Mr. Dave Brozeski, this band’s repertoire consists of selections for a wide variety of categories including marches, show tunes, and selections from popular & classic band literature.
Allegheny Brass Band is Western Pennsylvania’s only authentic, Britsh-style Brass Band! They have been in existence since 1982. Their unique instrumentation classifies them as a Britsh-style band. They play coronets instead of French horns. Over the years, they have evolved from the traditional four or five annual concerts as a rented hall to 20 to 25 concerts per year throughout Western PA. Their members come from the finest brass musicians in the tri-state area. They are a mix of professional musicians, music educators and accomplished amateurs and range in age from high school to 90! Performing music is truly a life long vocation. All of the musicians volunteer their time and talent.
Scottdale Area Concert Band 2019 brings us to our 37th year of performing throughout western Pennsylvania. Under the direction of Dr. Roderick T. Booker, this 45 – member, volunteer community band will bring a selection of Marches, Show Tunes, Big Band, Patriotic and other toe-tapping music. Ligonier was the first town to take a chance on this band when it was organized in 1982. We appreciate all your support through the years!
Kiski Valley Community Band Celebrating its 26th anniversary this year, the band under the direction of founding director Patti Marco and assistant director Karen Cole, enjoys playing a varied and interesting repertoire each season, fun for the musicians and audience alike. The music runs the gamut from serious selections in the concert band literature to marches, show tunes, patriotic music, and other genres. The band was established as an outlet for local musicians to play, perform and share their love of music. Practicing year round, the 45-member group helps cultivate young musicians, those “relearning” their instruments and keeps accomplished musicians entertained and challenged in a music-centered atmosphere. KVCB performs throughout the year at venues such as community events and festivals, a Veterans’ Day concert in November, and benefit concerts in December for various charitable organizations
Delmont Concert Band An all-volunteer organization of approximately 30 musicians from Delmont and the surrounding area. The Band prides itself on “playing music that people like to hear” and performs concerts for numerous community events, nursing homes, and churches throughout the year. Its members are of many ages and professions, but all share a love of making music together, and are proud to represent their community. The Band is under the direction of Mr. Bill Balawajder.
Penn Trafford Community Band Under the direction of Doug Skoretz and band manager Ron Rometo, the 60-member band has entertained audiences throughout Westmoreland and Allegheny counties with its wide variety of music, including patriotic, inspirational songs, stirring marches, popular themes from TV and movies, jazz, show tunes and familiar music from the big band era.
Community Band South CBS is under the leadership of James Bennett Co-Founder and Co-Director, retired former Director of bands and Chairman of Fine Arts in the Upper St. Clair School District. Max Gonano became Co-Director2015. He is the retired head of the Music Department and Director of Bands at California University of Pennsylvania. Community Band South, in its 33rd season, was created to provide the opportunity and a place for former high school and college band members who enjoy the experience of continuing to play in an excellent band. The CBS motto is “Music is for a lifetime!”
East Winds Symphonic Band is Proud to have been honored for its high standards of excellence by the John Philip Sousa Foundation with the prestigious Sudler Silver Scroll Award, the East Winds Symphonic Band, under the direction of Susan Sands, is passionate about sharing their music with communities all around the Pittsburgh region and beyond. Comprised of approximately 75 serious amateur musicians from all walks of life, and based in the eastern suburbs of Pittsburgh, EWSB has been playing a wide variety of music since 1982, including traditional wind band repertoire, marches and classical transcriptions, plus favorites from Broadway and Hollywood.
Big Fat Jazz A 20-member jazz band known for its high-energy sound and repertoire of classic and contemporary jazz, swing, blues and Latin numbers. Their mission is to keep the music of Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Duke Ellington, Brian Setzer, and many others alive for the pleasure of audiences throughout Western Pennsylvania.
The Wally Gingers Orchestra An original big band from the 1940s, the Wally Gingers Orchestra is a 10-piece band that was popular throughout the northeast from the early 1940s through the 1990s. Wally’s daughter, Clare, rekindled her father’s great arrangements that are reminiscent of the big band sounds of Glenn Miller, Woody Herman, the Dorsey Brothers, Count Basie, Benny Goodman and more. If you love big band music, you’re sure to love the Wally Gingers Orchestra.
Somerset County Community Band This 50-member band, ranging in age from high school students to grandparents, is under the direction of Mr. Jason June. They are celebrating their 30th season this year, performing traditional and popular music.
