On Saturday, Nov. 30, when the Ligonier Country Market (LCM) hosts its annual Christmas Market, shoppers will notice something delightfully
different: For the first time ever in the Christmas Market’s 12-year history, the event will be held in two locations in downtown Ligonier — enabling market-goers to stroll around town, enjoy the holiday decorations, and grab a bite to eat before or after finding the perfect gifts for family and friends. The LCM’s 2019 Christmas Market will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the following locations:
• Ligonier Valley YMCA, 110 West Church Street
• Ligonier Valley Library, 120 West Main Street
This year’s Christmas Market will feature nearly 100 LCM artisans, crafters, farmers, and food processors who must “Make It, Bake It, or Grow It” to participate. Some 85 vendors will be set up throughout the YMCA to sell their locally produced goods, while 14 vendors will be selling merchandise in the library’s Pennsylvania Room. The event promises a truly unique and meaningful holiday shopping experience on a day that coincides with American Express’s Small Business Saturday. That nationwide celebration encourages consumers to “Shop Small” and support owner-operated retailers, restaurants, and other merchants and boost the local economy — reinforcing the LCM’s theme. “The LCM Christmas Market has become a holiday tradition in our community, and it has grown to the point where a second site was needed to accommodate the large numbers of shoppers and vendors,” said Cari Frei, the LCM’s executive director. “We’re very excited about this expansion.” LCM vendors will showcase everything from artisan-made clothing and jewelry, to artwork and woodcrafts, to small-batch foods and beverages. “There aren’t many opportunities like this to buy such great quality craft and food items from the very people who make, bake, or grow them,” Frei said. “So please plan to join us on Nov. 30 to visit Ligonier and support the many family-owned businesses that are participating in this year’s event.” Parents encouraged to bring their children Children’s activities will include a visit from Tinsel — cousin of LCM mascot Daisy Mae and Lilly Lavender, who both will lead kids in creating a gingerbread house; the display will be entered into the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce’s annual gingerbread house contest. About the Ligonier Country Market Concluding its 44th year of operation in 2019, the LCM has grown from 12 vendors at its founding to more than 130 farm, craft, and prepared food and drink vendors today. An estimated 3,000 patrons attend the open-air market each Saturday from mid-May through September. The market continues to operate on the premise that vendors must “Make It, Bake It, or Grow It” to participate. The LCM also offers a full slate of weekly special features and events, including children’s activities and live music. During its outdoor season, the market is held from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine, from May through September on the Loyalhanna Watershed Association (LWA) farm at West Main Street and Springer Road in Ligonier Township.
