2008 LIGONIER CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT NOW AVAILABLE
This year's 2008 Christmas in the Ligonier Valley ornament is special as it is two sided. The ornament features the footprint of Fort Ligonier on one side, and the Ligonier 250 logo on the other. Ligonier Valley is commemorating the 250th anniversary (1758-2008) of Fort Ligonier and successful expedition to Fort Duquesne of General John Forbes during the French and Indian War. Forbes named the post on the Loyalhanna Creek after John Ligonier, commander in chief of the British army. Fort Ligonier resisted attack several times and was active until 1766.

This year in particular we encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the history that was made right here in our own backyard by visiting Fort Ligonier, Compass Inn Museum, the exhibits at Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art and Antiochian Heritage Museum. There are special events occurring throughout the year: Ligonier 250 Kickoff Weekend featuring the "American Eagle Outfitters Tour of Pennsylvania Bike Race", a National Encampment of "The Brigade of the American Revolution" at Fort Ligonier, Fort Ligonier Days, a Fall Lecture Series: featuring past presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Roosevelt. The ornament is number 25 in the series and can be purchased at the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce office in Town Hall.
