This page has a listing of some of the events and happenings in and around the Ligonier Valley area. Since many of these events happen at the same time each year, we will leave them posted throughout the year. We will continue to add more events and update this information regularly. If you need more specific information about any of the events presented here, please contact us.

January 2009

  • Ligonier Ice Fest - Jan. 24th - 25th, 2009 - On the Diamond. Ice artists create masterpieces from blocks of ice located on and within 1 block of the Diamond area. Carving starts at 10am on Saturday, Noon on Sunday

  • Martin's Specialty Shop - Celebrates their 109th birthday!

  • Valley Players - Winter Production - Ligonier Theater. Presenting live theatre since 1965.

    March 2009

  • Holy Trinity School Art Fair - March 14, 2009. 10am-3pm - Craft Show and French Café

  • Hollow Tree Players - present "Aladdin" at the Ligonier Town Hall - Saturday, March 28, at 7pm and Sunday, March 29 at 2pm. $5 per seat suggested donation.

April 2009

  • 17th Annual Tastes of the Town - April 2, 2009 - Hosted by the Ligonier Valley Historical Society, features a wide variety of sumptuous treats provided by area restaurants. Tickets are limited. Call 724-238-6818 for more information.

  • Fort Ligonier - opens April 15th, 2009. This impressive fort, the finest of its type in North America, is a full-scale on-site reconstruction of the 1758 -1766 original fort. There is also an excellent museum on the grounds.

    May 2009

  • Compass InnCompass Inn (shown at right) opens May 1st, 2009. Compass Inn is a restored stagecoach stop from 1799 furnished with period pieces. It is located 3 miles east of Ligonier in Laughlintown on Route 30 and is a project of the Ligonier Valley Historical Society.

  • Country Market - opens Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 and every Saturday through October 3rd, held across from the Grove at Millcreek restaurant. Open from 8 am to noon. The final day will feature all normal wares plus many Christmas items. For vendor info call 724-238-6702

  • Fort Ligonier - May 23-24, 2009.  8th Pennsylvania Regiment in Garrison will be encamped at the Fort conducting drills and musket firing from 12:00 - 4:00 PM each day.

  • Free Sunday Evening Band Concerts Begin - May 31st, 2009 - Ligonier Valley/Laurel Valley School Jazz Bands - 7pm on the Bandstand.

  • Memorial Day Parade - May 25th, 2009 - 11am, Service held on the Diamond


    June 2009

  • St. Michael's Country Fair - June 6th, 2009 - 1st Saturday of June at St. Michael's Church in Rector, PA

  • Free Sunday Band Concert - June 7th, 2009 - Swing City - 7pm Bandstand

  • Antiques on the Diamond - June 13th, 2009 - 8am to 4pm - Celebrating it's 26th year! 70 quality antique dealers set up shop around the center of town.

  • Living History at Compass Inn Museum - Special Sundays in July (July 18-19, 2009)

  • Fort Ligonier - July 18-19, 2009 - French Attack on Fort Ligonier's Redoubt. Artillery Demonstrations at 1:00 and 3:00 PM and Battle Reenactments at 1:30 and 3:30 PM on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Summer in Ligonier Arts and Crafts - July 24th & 25th, 2009, 9 am to 5 pm. We will have Arts and Crafts on the Diamond, entertainment, food, sidewalk sales, (buggy rides Sat. only) and fun activities for children.

  • Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 16th Annual Polo for the Cure - Stom Hollow Farm Field, between Ligonier & Stahlstown - Saturday, September 12, 2009. There will be an afternoon of grand buffets, silent auctions, entertainment, raffles and an exciting international polo match.   • Scottish Band Concert - September 13th, 2009 - 1pm - On the Diamond

  • Flax Scutching Festival - 2nd oldest in the world. 2nd Saturday and Sunday. Sept. 12th, 13th, 2009
    102nd year of this festival.

    October 2009

  • Miss Ligonier Contest - Oct. 3rd, 2009 - Ligonier High School Auditorium

  • Fort Ligonier Days - Oct. 9, 10, 11, 2009 - 2nd Friday, Saturday and Sunday. 50th Annual festival with crafts, food booths, parade, entertainment and demonstrations.

  • Scarecrow Contest - Oct 15th to Nov. 1st, 2009 - last week and weekend of Oct. on the Diamond

  • Halloween Storytelling at Compass Inn Museum - Oct. 23rd - 25th, 2009

  • Fort Ligonier - October 29, 2009 - "Ghosts and Legends of Fort Ligonier," an evening program with author, Dr. Walter Powell.

    November 2009
    Candlelight tours at Compass Inn

  • Harvest Candelight Tours of Compass Inn each weekend afternoon/evening (see photo at right).

    December 2009

  • Festival of Lights opens 1st Saturday. December 5th - 13th, 2009, noon to 7 pm.
    Features decorated trees and handcrafted gift boutique.


  • Christmas Candelight Tours of Compass Inn - December 5th-6th & 12th-13th, 2009

  • Gingerbread House Contest - Dec. 4th -13th, 2009 - Ramada Inn

  • Town Wide Open House - December 6th, 2009 - Noon to 5pm. Buggy Rides, Kettle Korn Man, entertainment and stores will offer refreshments in the shops and a festive Christmas atmosphere.
